Trip Overview

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a 16 days spiritual tour that will take you across Nepal and Tibet to one of the most venerated pilgrimage sites in the world. It is not just a travel journey, but also a faith journey, culture and life experience. During this trip, we will visit important temples in Kathmandu, travel across high mountain landscapes, and reach the holy Mansarovar Lake and Mount Kailash.

With Himalayan Pathways, this journey is planned in a steady and comfortable way. This trip is scheduled to take place in a gradual and relaxed manner to ensure that you can adapt to the varying altitude and have fun along the trip with Himalayan Pathways. Our journey will start with Kathmandu visits and preparation and then proceed to Nepal-Tibet border. The road trip proceeds on to isolated regions, villages, and open expanses.

It is also a trip that provides you the opportunity to explore local culture and the basic everyday life in both Nepal and Tibet. On our way, we will go through small towns, monasteries, and open spaces where people live slower and live a life in a different rhythm. Every day will be a new environment, and we will have sufficient time to relax, take things slow, and adapt to the environment. The experience of the entire Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is more rewarding when you go step by step and remain present all through the journey.

At Mansarovar Lake, which most travelers use to spend some time praying and reflecting, it is also a major aspect of the trip. Then we proceed to Darchen where the mount Kailash circuit begins. The three days walk around the mount Kailash is a significant aspect of the yatra and we will do it day by day at a slow pace.

Mount Kailash tour from Nepal consists of driving and walking days and we will have rest where necessary so that your body will adapt. The path is very high and accordingly, we will have a slow approach and guide you on the way. There are simple facilities on the path and our team will support you on the way.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package is ideal to those travelers who are well and willing to have a meaningful travel adventure. It is not a technical journey, though it takes time, flexibility and positive attitude. With proper preparation and guidance, most travelers can complete this journey safely.

Trip Information

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is difficult, but how difficult?

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is regarded as a moderate to a challenging tour primarily due to high altitude and long travel days. This is not a technical trip, though it must be in good physical shape and mind. In the course of the trip we will journey by road over a few days and take a three day walk around Mount Kailash.

The most challenging is Dolma La Pass crossing, and it is approximately 5600 meters. This may be because the air is so thin at this height and walking may be more tiring. We will do it at a slow rate and break often to enable you to settle down. Under the guidance, rest days and proper planning, majority of the travelers can successfully pass through the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra provided they plan it well beforehand.

Weather and Best Season

Mount Kailash tour from Nepal should be planned during spring between April and June and autumn between September and October when it is the best season to go. These months are more stable in weather, and the conditions under which it will be possible to travel are usually improved. The weather is typically sunny, and the temperatures during the days are bearable to travel and walk.

In the Nepal side, summer may have some rainfall whereas winter is extremely cold, particularly in Tibet. During colder months, heavy snow and strong winds may influence traveling plans. We will always expect to plan the journey on a proper season to minimize the risks and enhance comfort.

The selection of a season is a significant aspect of a hassle-free travel. On a timely basis, the Mount Kailash tour in Nepal can be more tolerable and you can enjoy the trip without any undue hardship.

Food and Drink

The food is basic, fresh, and made according to what is available locally during the trip. At Kathmandu, you will enjoy a variety of food choices but will be limited to fewer choices as we travel into more remote places. Our trip will be accompanied by frequent meals such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Foodstuff used is common food (rice, noodles, soup, vegetables and bread). These foods are appropriate when traveling long distances and are beneficial in maintaining the energy levels. Most places along the route also sell hot drinks such as tea and coffee.

During this journey, safe drinking water is highly essential. To prevent health complications, we will recommend the use of boiled or purified water. Personal water purification tablets can also be a good idea to be on the safe side.

Altitude Sickness and Recommendations

One of the key issues in this trip is the altitude, particularly above 3000 meters. Your body will take time to adapt to low oxygen levels as we climb up the mountain. Symptoms are likely to include headache, fatigue, dizziness, and loss of appetite.

We will include proper rest days and follow a gradual travel plan to help reduce these risks. Simple yet effective ways of managing altitude are drinking an adequate amount of water, eating correctly, and walking slowly. Our guides will also be monitoring your condition on a regular basis and offer assistance when necessary.

When the symptoms are serious, the most appropriate thing to do is to go down to a low altitude. Most travelers can accomplish the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package without having to go a long way and have a safe time with ease and care.

Preparation and Fitness

Proper preparation makes Mount Kailash tour from Nepal smoother and easier. It is not essential to have high training, and a minimum level of fitness will be valuable. This trip also involves days of driving long distances and walking in high elevations and therefore your body must be prepared to either.

We recommend to begin with light exercises at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to the trip. Some of the activities that can be used to build stamina include walking, jogging, cycling, and climbing stairs. Making your legs stronger and enhancing your breathing capacity will help to ease the trip.

There is also the mental preparation as the trip goes through the places that are distant and have simple facilities. The gradual pace and good preparation will make it possible to accomplish this journey with confidence and comfort.

Visa and Permits

In this trip, you will require a valid Nepal entry visa (where applicable) and Tibet travel documentation arranged through an authorized operator. You must have a valid passport of not less than six months before you travel. Nepal offers visa on arrival for many nationalities, but some travelers must obtain it in advance, so it is important to check before travel, but it is always best to enquire of the current rules before traveling.

Travel to Tibet requires advance permit processing through an authorized operator, which includes the necessary Tibet travel documents for this journey. We will handle all the required documents and process for you. All you should do is to submit your copy of passport and photos in time.

Permit checks are done at several points along the route, so it is important to carry your documents safely. Proper documentation ensures that your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra goes smoothly without delays.

Health & Safety

Health and safety are extremely essential in Mount Kailash tour from Nepal, particularly due to the elevated altitude and the isolated regions. Our guides are first aid trained and they know how to handle the situations related to altitude. They will inspect you on a regular basis and assist you when necessary.

We will have a stepwise schedule and will have rest days to allow your body to adapt. Consumers should drink, eat, and rest enough water every day. The journey can be significantly improved by simple precautions.

Remote areas have few medical facilities and therefore it is advisable to carry your own medicines. The Mount Kailash tour in Nepal can be done safely and comfortably with proper care and guidance.

Transportation

This journey includes a mix of road travel and short walking sections. We will have comfortable cars to make long journeys among various places. In Nepal, the roads are paved but there are rough and uneven roads in Tibet.

We will also take care of travel in a gradual manner and there will be frequent rests to make you comfortable. The process of crossing and travelling across the border is also done systematically to prevent confusion. This trip will involve many driving days though we will make sure that the speed is comfortable.

Transportation is planned carefully so that travel remains smooth and organized. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package gives you an opportunity to experience it with proper coordination instead of paying so much attention to the logistics.

Travel Insurance

This journey is highly advised to be taken with a travel insurance because of the high altitude and remote travelling conditions. The road goes beyond 5000 meters, with few health centers and emergency rescue might be needed.

High altitude travel, medical treatment and emergency evacuation must be covered by your insurance. It can be convenient too when it covers the delay or cancellation of trips. With a good insurance, you are assured throughout the trip.

Before the trip, we will ask you to give your insurance and emergency contacts. This will help us in taking immediate action when required. Your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is safe and properly covered on the way with the right cover.

Alternative Routes

This journey can be planned in different ways depending on your time and comfort level. Other travelers may take a shorter path whereas others may take a longer plan with slower gradual traveling and rest days.

The normal path is the overland route via Nepal into Tibet, which is the most widely used. This path enables more adjustment of altitude and a more consistent speed. In other instances, the choice of the trip might be determined by permission regulations and the time of the year.

The itinerary can be changed according to your schedule and preferences. Adaptable schedule makes the Mount Kailash tour from Nepal more comfortable and appropriate to various kinds of travelers.

Your Extra Expenses

Although most of the major services are part of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package, there are certain personal costs that you need to budget on. A drink, snacks, and personal shopping are not considered. Some of them may also require you to pay extra on services such as charging devices, Wi-Fi, and hot showers.

These costs should be budgeted and enough cash carried to cover them particularly in remote locations where payments can not be made using a card. Small currency notes are more useful during the journey.

These additional expenses need to be planned ahead of time to prevent confusion at the trip. You can make your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra hassle free without high cost surprises with proper planning of your budget.

Language & Communication

In Nepal, Nepali is the primary language, whereas in Tibet, the language is Tibetan. However, in tourism-related areas, basic English is commonly understood. There will be guides who will guide you during the journey process and aid in communication where necessary.

You can learn a couple of basic greetings, such as Namaste, which will help you to make your communication more comfortable and respectful. Small gestures to reach their culture are valued by local people.

There is also mobile network coverage in certain locations particularly in towns, but in remote areas the coverage is limited. Communication is not always constant, and in this regard, it is better to be prepared of having a reduced connectivity during the Mount Kailash tour from Nepal.

Internet and Charging Facilities

Some of the towns along the route have access to the internet, but the internet might be slow and unreliable. Connection may be limited or unavailable in higher and remote areas. Certain guesthouses can offer Wi-Fi, often at an additional fee, but it is not normally high-speed.

Most locations have charging facilities, yet you might have to spend a minimal fee per device. Local power systems are often used to control electricity and these are not always consistent.

It is also a good idea to carry a power bank so that you can keep your devices charged in case of low electricity. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package is also comfortable in its bare basic facilities when well planned.

What not to do in the Yatra

It is extremely important during Mount Kailash tour from Nepal to respect local culture and environment. We must wear simple clothes and adhere to local traditions when we visit temples and monasteries. It is customary to take off shoes before entering religious places.

Littering should be prevented and waste must be disposed in a proper way. Carrying plastic bottles is not the best choice as compared to using reusable water bottles. Conservation of the environment makes the location clean to the next tourists.

Alcohol should also be avoided particularly when at high altitudes as it may have an impact on your health. This is because, by listening to your body and acting on the advice of the guide, you are likely to make the journey safe and comfortable.

Trip Extension Options

After completing the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package, you may choose to spend more time in Nepal. Cultural sites, temples, and local markets are available in Kathmandu where you can take your time to visit. There is also the opportunity to make short trips and relax in the nearby places.

The other alternative is to go to Pokhara where the environment is quiet and views of the lake are available. It is a good place to rest after a long journey.

We will be happy to make some more arrangements depending on your time and interest. The tour of the Mount Kailash in Nepal does not mean that you have to go back to Nepal and leave. You can be able to see more and experience the entire travel experience by extending your stay.

Tips for First-Time Visitors

If this is your first visit, a few simple tips can make your journey easier. They should always have sufficient local currency because ATMs are not always present in remote locations. Have little notes to use on a daily basis.

To remain healthy in the trip, drink boiled or purified water only. Wearing easy steps and not being in a hurry particularly at elevated altitude is also beneficial.

Being sensitive to local culture and patient when travelling will make your overall experience better. When done properly and prepared the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is an easy and worthwhile journey.
