Visa requirements are an important aspect of planning international travel. Since Himalayan Pathways is a Nepal based travel company that operates tours and trekking programs in Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, visa procedures vary from one destination to another as well as to the traveler nationality.
Travelers are encouraged to get the necessary visas and documentation prepared in advance in order to ensure a smooth journey. Himalayan Pathways offers advice and coordination assistance depending on destination and travel plan.
Nepal provides tourist visa on arrival facility to citizens of most of the countries. Travelers can avail the visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu or the land border entry points. To obtain a visa on arrival, travelers must have a valid passport (valid for at least six months), a completed visa application form, a recent photograph, and the corresponding visa fee.
Tourist visas for Nepal are mostly issued for 15, 30 or 90 days according to the traveler’s plan. Travelers can also apply for Nepal tourist visa at Nepalese embassy or consulate in their native country before reaching Nepal. Visa extensions can be obtained from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara inside Nepal.
Bhutan requires a visa in advance for all foreign travelers. Independent travel is not allowed and visitors must book their trip through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or an authorized international travel company. As a Nepal based company, Himalayan Pathways collaborates with the licensed partners in Bhutan for visa processing for confirmed bookings of tours.
Travelers do not need to pay a visit to a Bhutanese embassy for visa. Once the tour is confirmed and the required payments are made, a visa clearance letter is issued. The actual visa is stamped at arrival in Bhutan. A valid passport and the documentation confirming the travel are required for visa processing.
Travel to Tibet is a special process because of the travel regulations. Foreign travellers have to first apply for a Chinese tourist visa. After the Chinese visa is issued, more permits are required to enter and travel in Tibet. These include the Tibet Travel Permit and for some areas additional permits for specific regions.
Independent travel in Tibet is not permitted. Travelers must take part in an organized tour in association with a registered travel company. Himalayan Pathways organizes Tibet tours through authorized partners and has the permit organized as soon as the Chinese visa is procured. Travelers entering Tibet via Nepal may need a special group visa issued in consultation with Chinese authorities.
Visa regulations may vary according to the government policies and the nationality of the travelers. Travelers should make sure that they have an adequate amount of validity in their passport and an adequate number of blank pages.
Himalayan Pathways helps and offers up to the minute information while booking, however finalizing of the Visa approval is up to respective immigration authority.
Himalayan Pathways helps the travelers with clarity and coordination for visa and permit formalities for Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. Our team works closely with official partners to make sure travel documents are prepared correctly.
